How to Pick a Book

Last week, I did a lesson with the kids on how to pick a book. I used the example of picking shoes. You have different shoes for different things. We read books for different reasons. Also, we want our shoes to fit right, just like we want a good fit for our book. We don't want a book that is too easy or too hard, just like we don't want our shoes to be too big or too small. Below is our "I PICK" guidelines for finding a book.


I choose a book

Purpose-Why do I want to read it?
Interest-Does it interest me?
Comprehend-Am I understanding what I am reading?
Know-I know most of the words.

Box Tops

A note about BOX TOPS will be coming home tomorrow in your child's Friday Folder. We are going to have some friendly competitions at our school this year to see which classroom can collect the most. The winning classroom will earn some sort of prize! Be collecting and sending those BOX TOPS to school with your child. Maybe grandparents or a neighbor would collect them also for your child!!!!!

First three days

Well the first three days are behind us and the students seem eager to dive into the school year. Here is our first official class picture of the 2010-2011 school year!

GReat first day!

We had a great first day of school. The students enjoyed seeing their friends and talking about all the fun they had this summer. It sounds like many of you went on fun vacations this summer! Our day kicked off with the annual flag raising ceremony and we are now ready to begin our 4th grade adventure.

Great turn out

We had a great turn out at Open House last night. It was great to see everyone again and I am excited to get started. I will see everyone Wednesday!

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year

The first day is fast approaching and I can't wait for our year to get underway. I am excited to see many of you tonight at the Open House from 6:00-7:30 PM. See you then!
